Measuring Tread Depth

Don’t know if your tires are worn out? Use the simple penny test! Insert a penny into several tread grooves of the tire. If you see the entirety of Lincoln’s head, your treads are shallow and worn and need to be replaced. If part of Lincoln’s hair and head is still covered by the treads, you have more than 2/32 of an inch of tread remaining which probably means you don’t need new tires.

Tire Rotation

Regular tire rotation is important if you want to extend the life of your tires. If you were to never rotate your tires, your tires would have uneven wear. When you drive, your front tires experience more stress, as they are responsible for steering and turning the car. By rotating your tires, you are spreading out wear evenly throughout all tires and will also increase fuel economy and overall performance!

Tire Pressure

Ever notice that you low pressure light comes on when the temperature drops? You should check your tires at least once a month, especially during the fall and winter with colder temperatures. You should check your tires when the tires are cold, which means they should not have been driven on for at least 3 hours. The Tire Information Label located on the inside of your doorframe and your vehicle’s owner manual should have the recommended cold tire pressure for your vehicle. Maintaining the correct tire pressure is important and has a variety of benefits including: better mileage, safer and less likely to fail at high speeds, and provides less wear on the tires.
